Self care has become a word that's associated with quotes on pink backgrounds, bubble baths and aromatherapy oils - at least that's what the 21,394,889 Instagram posts hash tagged #selfcare show us. An idea, a lifestyle that's heavily focused on women. Just 1,222 posts are tagged #selfcareformen. Only 24% of men* who are experiencing high levels of stress actually speak to another person about their worries. Self care for men should absolutely be a priority.

Journal Your Thoughts
Whether it’s a few pages in the morning; simply pick up your journal as soon as you wake and let your mind do the writing. A gratitude list; what 3 things are your grateful for today? Or Future Scripting; an exercise where you write in future tense as if all that you dream of has already happened – getting your thoughts down on paper is said to be extremely therapeutic. A problem shared is a problem halved.
Connect with Nature
Getting outside whatever the weather is great for our mental health, especially if we kick off our shoes and embrace the feeling of being barefoot, grounding with the Earth. Being outside in natural light can be helpful if you experience Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), a type of depression that often affects people in Winter.
Set aside one day a week to have a digital detox. Turn off your notifications. Practice living a little more in the moment rather than inside the scroll. Self care definitely involves switching off.
